Pacific Engineering to Bring 150 Quality Jobs to North Omaha Community in First Airport Business Park Deal
Multi-million-dollar investment marks first business recruited under landmark economic development program.
Omaha, Neb. - Omaha Economic Development Corporation (OEDC) announced that Pacific Engineering, Inc. (PEI) will lease a 150,000-square-foot industrial facility at 5906 Abbott Drive, creating 150 quality jobs and marking the first business under the Airport Business Park program.
This agreement represents the first major business recruitment within the newly formed Omaha Inland Port Authority, signaling early momentum for a long-term strategy to drive private investment and job growth in North Omaha.
PEI is a Lincoln, Nebraska-based designer and manufacturer of advanced composite products for military and commercial applications. The expansion marks growing opportunities for the company into Omaha. Construction is expected to be completed this fall, with operations beginning before the end of the year.
"Pacific Engineering is excited about this expansion in Omaha, strengthening our presence in a key market and positioning us to contribute to the city's next phase of economic development. This move supports our continued growth and creates shared benefits for our business, the community, and the local economy," said Dexter Myers, Senior Vice President of PEI.
Over the next five years, the company expects to hire approximately 150 employees, with an average annual wage of $74,000. PEI aligned with Airport Business Park's intent, entering a 15-year Community Benefits Agreement, outlining hiring, wage, and workforce advancement benchmarks, with priority given to residents of qualifying North Omaha census tracts.
"This project demonstrates exactly what the Airport Business Park was designed to do: unlock private investment, create quality jobs, and deliver real economic opportunity to North Omaha," said Michael Maroney, President and CEO of OEDC.
The Airport Business Park program was created by the Nebraska Legislature in 2022 through the Economic Recovery Act (LB 1024) to spur development in historically underserved areas near Eppley Airfield, building on priorities identified in the North Omaha Recovery Plan.
OEDC officials say additional site development and business recruitment efforts are already underway. The first official business leased under the Airport Business Park grant program is the result of the collaborative partnership of the Omaha Inland Port Authority (OIPA), State of Nebraska government, Omaha Chamber of Commerce and Burlington Capital.
